Carol started her BBC career in 1978 as a Trainee Assistant Film Editor at Ealing Studios, and spent many happy years editing Music & Arts and Documentary programmes at Kensington House. She moved into management in 1991 as Editing Operations Manager, just before the Birt Report initiated a major restructure and downsizing of craft services. On a positive note, she led adoption of the new non-linear edit systems which appeared in 1992-3. Carol left Post Production in 1995 for a Project Director role in digital production technology, creating the DigiLab innovation centre and launching pioneering work on metadata. This latter became her main focus until 2004, when she and her team were outsourced to Siemens under the Technology Framework Contract (TFC), where she stayed until 2008.
After four years in commercial media companies as a business development director, Carol set up her own consulting company in 2012, and was soon hired by the BBC to run the services workstream of the TFC re-procurement. She completed that contract at the end of December 2016, then reverted to a mixture of volunteer and commercial activities. She is a Fellow of the Royal Television Society, Deputy Chair of its London Centre and an event producer, has volunteered with Mall Galleries and the Federation of British Artists, and is looking at other opportunities in the arts sector
