Just when most of us think we are on top of our vaccinations for the winter, another one is sprung on us. The latest Covid booster and flu jab are now available to book but also you might have got a notification through from your GP about an RSV vaccine. I must confess I had never heard of it and then a friend let me know that she had contracted it and was quite poorly. The NHS website says that RSV is a common cause of coughs and colds. Most people get it several times during their life but in vulnerable people like babies and older adults it can cause pneumonia or bronchiolitis which affects babies. In older people the vaccine is being offered to adults aged between 75 and 79 which has caused some controversy. If you are offered the vaccine I urge you to have it so you can avoid anything that might compromise your health. It is a single dose vaccine and does not need to be repeated every year.
