Background
Leslie Huss-Smickler is the current Pensioner Elected Trustee Director of the BBC Pension Scheme. He also serves on the Committee of the BBC Pensioners Association (BBCPA). In December 2025 he will have completed 11 years as a Trustee Director. As the maximum term that a Trustee Director can serve is 12 years, Leslie has decided not to stand for re-election as his new term would then be for one year only. Therefore, a vacancy will exist for a new Pensioner Elected Trustee Director to take office from 1 January 2026.

What does a Trustee Director Do?
• Ensures that the Scheme is administered in accordance with the Trust Deed and Rules, and changing legislation.
• Looks after the assets of the Scheme and ensures that benefits are paid at the right time and to the right people.
• Makes decisions on investment policy to help sustain the Scheme financially.
The Trustee Directors are supported by professional advisers.
Who can apply?
Former contributing members of the BBC Pension Scheme who are resident in the UK and are receiving a pension from the Scheme.
Additional requirements
• Are dedicated to helping ensure the success of the Scheme.
• Want to make a difference for all members of the BBC Pension Scheme (active, deferred and pensioners).
• Have a basic understanding of pensions and are willing to learn more.
• Have attended an Information Session about the role of a Trustee Director (see below).
Candidates don’t have to be a pensions expert or have a background in finance or investment. Having a variety of skills, perspectives and experiences amongst Trustee Directors helps the Trustee Board work effectively for the benefit of all Scheme members.
Additional information
• The term of office runs from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2031.
• Time commitment is approximately 25 days per year.

Information sessions
Candidates will be required to attend an information session in person at London Broadcasting House, or virtually via Microsoft Teams.
The information sessions will be held on 3 July at 10.00 – 11.30 and on 23 July at 14.00 – 15.30.
