Once upon a time there was a BBC Club in practically every building occupied by the BBC. Those days have gone and they only have a physical presence in London, Elstree and Salford. However, this great institution within a Corporation, which was founded in 1924 as a private members club, is still going strong, although in a different way. In addition, the Prospero Society section of the Club is run for retired BBC Staff and their partners and friends. Activities include lunches, tours of museums, major entertainment venues and buildings of historical interest, theatre trips and a traditional Christmas lunch – all at subsidized prices for Prospero Society members.
